Using Web API with Entity Framework to delete data sample

This article is the extension of Using Web API with Entity Framework to create data sample (

1. Open ValuesController.cs file under the Controllers folder in Solution Explorer.

2. Replace the entire Delete(int id)method with the following code.

// DELETE api/values/5

publicvoid Delete(int id)


  //int localid = id;

  northwindEntities context = newnorthwindEntities();


  var result = (from r in context.Products where (r.ProductID == id) select r).FirstOrDefault();




3. Open Index.cshtml file under the Views \ Home folder in Solution Explorer.

4. Replace the entire file with the following code.








    <scripttype=”text/javascript”>        //this gets JSON data from an url   

        $(document).ready(function () {

            $(“#Button1”).click(function () {

                //the id that you want to delete

                var id = 81;



                    url: ‘api/Values/’ + id,

                    cache: false,

                    type: ‘DELETE’,
