Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 fails with error ‘The pipe is being closed”

When you want to install Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 you may hit the error ‘The pipe is being closed”.

Do not waste your time to download the Update 3 using:

VS2012.3.exe /layout

option. It is waste of time.

The one and the only way to make it work is to download the Update 3 iso from MSDN.

Once you have this downloaded, and extracted/mounted/burnt you need to open an administrative CMD window and navigate to …\packages\WinACK\ and install these 2 patches:

I. Windows App Certification Kit x64-x86_en-us.msp

II. Windows App Certification Kit Native Components-x64_en-us.msp

I give up. Tried your method (and other suggested methods). Now I can’t even do a repair or uninstall of the original installation. I actually liked VS2012, but since Microsoft can’t make an installer that works I guess I’m back to VS2010 (I hope it will install).
I wish there were real alternatives to Visual Studio.
