Abstract Factory Design Pattern

The short article showing how to build the Abstract factory pattern.

In the Factory Design Pattern, based on the product then you ask factory to create the product. In the Abstract Factory Pattern you create the product based on the client.

Firstly we create the AbstractFactory class, AbstractFactory.

 

abstract class AbstractFactory

{

    public abstract AbstractProductA CreateProductA();

    public abstract AbstractProductB CreateProductB();

}

 

The create 2 ConcreteFactory classes, ConcreteFactory1 and

 

class ConcreteFactory1 : AbstractFactory

{

    public override AbstractProductA CreateProductA()

    {

        return new ProductA1();

    }

    public override AbstractProductB CreateProductB()

    {

        return new ProductB1();

    }

}

 

class ConcreteFactory2 : AbstractFactory

{

    public override AbstractProductA CreateProductA()

    {

        return new ProductA2();

    }

    public override AbstractProductB CreateProductB()

    {

        return new ProductB2();

    }

}

 

Create the AbstractProduct class, AbstractProductA and AbstractProductB.

    public abstract void Interact(AbstractProductA a);

}

 

Create a product classes inherit from AbstractProductA.ProductA1 and ProductA2.

 

class ProductA1 : AbstractProductA

}

 

Create another product classes inherit from AbstractProductB.ProductB1 and ProductB2.

 

class ProductB1 : AbstractProductB

{

    public override void Interact(AbstractProductA a)

    {

        Console.WriteLine(this.GetType().Name +

          ” interacts with “ + a.GetType().Name);

    }

}

 

class ProductB2 : AbstractProductB

{

    public override void Interact(AbstractProductA a)

    {

        Console.WriteLine(this.GetType().Name +

          ” interacts with “ + a.GetType().Name);

    }

}

 

Finally, create the client class,

{

    private AbstractProductA _abstractProductA;

    private AbstractProductB _abstractProductB;

 

    // Constructor

    public Client(AbstractFactory factory)

    {

        _abstractProductB = factory.CreateProductB();

        _abstractProductA = factory.CreateProductA();

    }

 

    public void Run()

    {

        _abstractProductB.Interact(_abstractProductA);

    }

}

 

The main program as below.

    public static void Main()

    {

        AbstractFactory factory1 = new ConcreteFactory1();

        Client client1 = new Client(factory1);

        client1.Run();

 

        AbstractFactory factory2 = new ConcreteFactory2();

        Client client2 = new Client(factory2);

        client2.Run();

        Console.ReadKey();

    }

}
