Where to get SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio

This short article shows you where to get and how to install SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio.

SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio as known as BIDS. Today, you are no longer easy to get the result from google if you are finding Business Intelligence Development Studio or BIDS. You will get a better result if you are searching for SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence.

You can install this feature when you are installing the SQL Server full edition such as Standard Edition. Somehow I did not realize I see it so I force to download a separate installer to install the SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence (BIDS).

The download for the moment is here http://www.microsoft.com/en-sg/download/details.aspx?id=42313.  This is for Visual Studio 2013. There will be a new location for the future version perhaps.

You will see the following screen once you start the installation. Select All that is what I did.

DO NOT choose Add features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2014 if you are running SQL Server x64.

You will get the Same architecture installation error if you choose SQL Server 2014 if you are running SQL Server x64.

If you select Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2014 then your installation will be successful.

Surprisingly if you are running Windows Server 2012 R2 with VS 2013 then the Windows Phone 8.1 Emulators will kick start to install itself.

You will find your BIDS in Visual Studio 2013 after all these.
