Integer division in c# returns an integer but not a float

This short blog shows you one of the possibilities to resolve the error Cannot implicitly convert type `float’ to `int’. “”

I found people asking “Why Integer division in c# returns an integer but not a float?” and more in the forums. For example like the one below.

Means the code below might not work for you.

static void Main(string[] args)


    float f1 = 0;

    float f2 = 0;

    float f3 = 0;


    f3 = (f1 / f2) * 60;


There are 2 solutions:

1. change the code

f3 = (f1 / f2) * 60f;

2. Update you Visual Studio to Update 3 if you are using Visual Studio 2015.
